Hiv/Aids

Community based HIV/AIDS prevention project – 2006

It is well known that poverty and migration are major contributing factors for the spread of HIV. These are exacerbated by poor access to healthcare services, high level of illiteracy, striking gender imbalance and week governance. HIV/AIDS also has the potential to erode economic, social and human development across the full spectrum of development gains.

To respond effectively to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, Organization  has introduced a community based, gender focused intervention on reducing transmission of HIV/AIDS ‘by capacitating and strengthening community based organizations’which  focus on:

  1. Strengthening grass root capacity to prevent and control the spread of HIV.
  2. Promoting greater awareness of and attention to issues surrounding HIV/AIDS.
  3. Improving access to treatment, care and supportive services.
  4. Reducing the stigma and discrimination of those infected with as well as those most vulnerable to HIV/AIDS.
  5. Organizing community-based sensitization, behaviour change, counselling sessions and referrals in slums and low income community areas in urban Mangalore.
